Location: On the SE coast of the island
about 2½ miles NE of the lively resort of Laganas.
3 miles S of the island's capital, Zakynthos. Closest
resort to the airport, ½ mile.
Position: Backed by mountains with extensive
countryside and olive groves.
General Description: A typical Greek
resort which is slowly catching on to idea of tourism.
Spread over a large area it is not built up and has a
feeling of freedom and relaxation.
Accommodation: Several pleasant hotels;
also self-catering studios.
Beaches: An extension of Laganas Beach,
Kalamaki has the same qualities: unspoilt sand with superb
clear water. Occasionally used by nesting turtles. Pedalloes
available.
Shopping: Local minimarkets with good
choice. Several tourist shops available, but Zakynthos
town is fairly close offers more choice.
Entertainments: Daytime: long winding
roads backed by mountains and olive groves for peaceful
walks whilst watching the planes take off and land.
Nightlife: one disco just outside the resort at the top
of a hill. Also a few bars offering family entertainment
- karaoke and quiz nights.
Eating out: Home to some of the best
traditional Greek tavernas on Zante. Some restaurants
serve English food, but it's worth going Greek because
of the quality of the food.
Public transport: Bus service (5 a day)
running to Zakynthos town. Taxis at the rank at the main
junction of the resort, but scarce after midnight.
